The timing was perfect and the applause deafening. Those who spotted the “lone eagle” supposed the enthusiasm might be largely for him. Whether it was or not, he handled the situation gracefully by sitting down quickly and burying his face in the program.
Lindbergh, more than any other popular idol of the generation, has the capacity to meet unexpected situations with amazing calm. He has been put to many difficult tests without a single error of judgment. It is a grand record.
