O. O. McIntyre // Ten years ago there were hundreds of freelance reporters haunting Park Row. They made a vicarious living selling poems, interviews and articles. But now the freelance game, if not dead, is inert. With very few exceptions all newspapers depend on their staff for material formerly furnished by freelancers. The freelance list includes many notables—Richard Harding Davis, Stephen Crane, Arthur Somers Roche, Irvin Cobb, James Gibbons Huneker and a host of others.
But there is still room for the freelance photographer. The rotogravure sections and tabloid picture newspaper form a fertile field for their activities.
