Blind George

O. O. McIntyre // Blind George who has held forth at his little newspaper hutch in Herald Square for 20 years, is going to move to Forty Second Street and Sixth Avenue. When the dismantling of the building that housed the Herald began, Blind George tapped his way to work one morning and found his stand gone.

He didn’t complain. “Life is like that.” he said. “I shall start all over again.” The contractor came and fixed up a temporary stand and in the meantime old customers heard of his plight and bought a fine stand for him at the Bryant Park corner. Blind George knows thousands by their voices. He was once an architect with a promising future when blindness came to him.
